In Unit 1 of chemistry we were learning about nomenclature, which is the choosing of names for different things such as chemical compounds.
I have always really liked Crash Course, on YouTube, and I found one of the videos pertaining to nomenclature:

Throughout the unit we learned how to name and the difference between: Type I, Type II, Type III compounds, and acids. I had some trouble at first at figuring out when to use each naming system, but after reading more into them I can easily distinguish between them now.
Here are the different names and what they consist of:
Type I: The compound of a metal and nonmetal
Type II: The compound of transition metal and a nonmetal, contains roman numerals
Type III: The compound of two nonmetals, you use prefixes when naming them
Acids: Compound that contains an H + ion
Here is a flow chart I created in order to help determine how to name acids:

Frontier Chemistry
Throughout this project I used multiple different sites to help me find all the information I needed for the plants.
For the majority of the information you could just look it up and the answer would be right there. In the case of finding out the active chemical in the plants, I had to use a separate site because that information did not seem to be anywhere else. I used http://www.naturalmedicinefacts.info/
Now that I have done this project I see plants very differently. My friends and I will be at soccer practice and there is a patch of flowers right next to where we play. I found that we could identify almost every single one, as well as its medicinal uses!! It was actually really cool, and everyone on my team thought we were crazy.
