This week we completed another lab called the Reactivity Series Lab. In this lab we watched different redox reactions occur and then solved for their net ionic equations. We were able to use aqueous solutions of water, hydrogen chloride, copper sulfate, and river nitrate. With those we reacted each with solid forms of lead, copper, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and tin and watched to see if any sort of chemical reaction took place. Using our results we had to create our own reactivity series.
In order to predict their solution we had to use a reactivity series table that showed us whether the single replacement reaction would occur. Here is a link to a site that describes this table: http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/guides/zqjsgk7/revision

Test Tomorrow
In my first blog post for the unit I talked about non redox reactions which included double replacement and acid based reactions. For the test tomorrow no only will those be on there, but redox reactions will as well. Here is a picture explaining what makes a reaction a redox reactions:

Quiz
Preparing for the quiz that was taken last week was difficult. I needed to look over everything that we have done, knowing that any of it could possibly be on the quiz. Some of the things covered were balancing equations, solubility rules, and double replacement reactions. All of these things need to be known for the unit test coming up also.

Solubility Lab
This past week we completed the Solubility Lab where we tested the solubility of multiple different chemicals and their reactions with each other.
For the follow up on the lab we had to complete the different equations of the reactions, but only for the ones with driving forces. After creating those equations we then had to figure out their net ionic equations.

Chemical Equations
For the past couple of days we have been learning how to balance chemical equations. On Tuesday, Mrs. Frankenburg went over the steps needed to take in order to end up with a balanced equation. Not only that but we also learned how to balance certain equations using the CHO technique.
