Our Unit Exam over measurement is tomorrow. Overall the type of things that will be on the exam is almost exactly like the quiz we took two days ago with just one more new lesson on it. This new lesson is over Dimensional analysis. This is used in order to convert one quantity into another.

Quiz today
We had a quiz today over Significant figures, rounding, and measurement. During the test I did not feel confident about what I was doing, mainly because I constantly kept second guessing myself. AFter getting the results back, and only missing 2, I feel a lot better about what I did.
For the significant figures portion of the test, I had trouble remembering all of the rules in regards to which zeros were significant and which weren't. Here is a link explaining the sig figs more: http://www.chemteam.info/SigFigs/SigFigRules.html

Mole Day
This week we celebrated Mole Day! This is a day dedicated to commemorate Avagadro's Number. In order to celebrate each student in chemistry had to create their own mole.

Here is a picture of my mole and my friends. Our theme for our moles was Sesame Street and we each created a character from the show and made them into moles.

Mass and Measurement pretest
The pretest for each of the units are taken before we do anything else with the chapter, therefore we are expected to know almost nothing on the test. After taking the test for this particular unit I am expecting a lot of simple material that once it is learned you will know forever. The type of things that the questions were composed of was a lot of things that you had to have been taught rather than being able to figure it out on our own. All in all I think that this chapter will be relatively easy as long as I understand the things being taught.

Aspirin Lab Day 2

Aspirin Lab Day 1
Today in class we completed our first day of the Aspirin lab. Out of the steps required for the lab we have completed the following:
- We have combined the 5g of salicylic acid with the 7mL of acidic anhydride and then adding the 8 drops of sulfuric acid to the mix
- We then heated the mixture by submerging the flask that it was in into a beaker than contained boiling water. This lasted for 15 minutes
- After letting the mixture cool for 3 minutes we added 15mL of ice cold water and stirred the combination
All of this took place during day one and the last of the experiment will take place tomorrow, using our ready aspirin solution.
