Chloride lab

Yesterday in class we completed the Chloride lab. In this lab we had to heat up Zinc Chloride in order to remove the water from it. The heating up of the piece of Zinc lead to it dissolving and later removing all of the liquid and becoming white.

Hydrate Lab

In class this week we got to complete the Hydrate Lab. For this lab we were able to extract the water from copper (II) sulfate order to discover how much water was actually in it.

When we did this, it caused the dry, white, chalk material to recrystallize and begin to proceed to its initial structure; which was blue crystals.

Quiz Today

Today in the quiz there were many questions that were extremely tricky. This is because they were worded in a very different way than we have been doing so previously, they required more thought.


Throughout the quiz there were multiple different concepts that were covered. One of the things that showed up frequently was having to name polyatomic ions. Although this is review, it is sometimes hard to remember. Here is a link to a quizlet site with all of the ones that are needed to be remembered:

*when naming the amount of water molecules in a hydrate, remember to use the prefixes*

Post pre test thoughts

Now that we have learned a few of the concepts that were on the pre test, I have seen all of the material that we will be learning on the pre test, and have read over a lab that has to do with the current lesson, I know this lesson will be a tough one. All together, there are so many different and tedious things that we have to know for this unit that it is going to require more outside word. In order for me to understand every concept that is going to come up I must do some sort of outside homework and get extra help if I want to do well on the unit test and quizzes.

Mole Road Map

Throughout class the past few days we have been using the Mole Road Map in order to convert different labels into something else. In other words we would convert atoms into moles and then into mass.  We also completed a lab where we got to convert actual objects' mass into moles, getting to use the road map to help with the conversions.
